Senators won’t take corruption seriously

I recently wrote Sens. Durbin and Kirk about the lack of integrity and accountability in our institutions, especially in government. The replies were nothing more than “canned” positions, almost totally disengaged from the theme of my letter. I suspect letters from constituents are scanned for key words or phrases that trigger already prepared position statements.

Sen. Durbin’s reply in particular was so far afield I returned it with an admonishment to his staff. Incredibly, the reply was yet another irrelevant rambling about cooperation in Congress.

I have two other thoughts about our so-called representation, for which we pay dearly in taxes: These feeble or just plain disingenuous replies serve only to increase voter distaste and apathy for politicians; and, getting Illinois politicians to go on record about corruption is like trying to push the proverbial camel through the eye of a needle.
