No one injured in Batavia apartment fire

No one was injured when an electrical fire filled a four-unit apartment building in Batavia with smoke late Thursday morning, according to fire officials.

Firefighters arriving at the building on the 100 block of North Mallory Street were told an occupant was trapped inside, but that proved to be false, according to fire officials.

Firefighters attacked the fire at 11:10 a.m. and had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, according to the Batavia Fire Department.

Two of the four apartments were occupied when the fire started in a rear hallway near an electrical outlet, but all the residents escaped unharmed.

During a search of the units, firefighters found an uninjured cat.

Smoke detectors worked properly and alerted the residents to escape the fire, which caused about $45,000 in damage, according to fire officials.

The North Aurora, Geneva, Elburn and St. Charles fire departments provided assistance.
