Bosio is Cubs new pitching coach

Chris Bosio has become the second new coach to join the Cubs’ staff.

The team confirmed Friday night that Bosio will be named the new pitching coach, replacing Mark Riggins, who served one year.

Bosio is a former teammate of new manager Dale Sveum as both played for the Milwaukee Brewers. The 48-year-old Bosio most recently worked as pitching coach of the Brewers’ Class AAA Nashville club.

Both Bosio and new bench coach Jamie Quirk told various media outlets of their hirings. The Cubs have yet to make formal announcements.

Bosio pitched for the Brewers from 1986-92 before pitching for the Seattle Mariners from 1993-96. He compiled a lifetime record of 94-93 with a 3.96 ERA.

“All of those long-suffering Cubs fans, their will to win, their want to win, their passion to win, it’s going to be a lot of good energy,” Bosio told the Appleton (Wis.) Post-Crescent. “It’s going to be agonizing at times, and rewarding as well. That’s the rigors of the season. But we’re going to try and create some magic at Wrigley.”

Cubs president Theo Epstein said this week the Cubs would announce their entire coaching staff by next week’s winter meetings or shortly after the meetings.
