Elginbull; An Elgin man said he was robbed in his home by two men Monday, one armed with a .38-caliber revolver and the other one carrying a stun gun. It occurred at 8:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Morgan Street and began when the man carrying the revolver asked the man if he had a mutual friend's cell phone number. As the man retrieved his cell phone to get the number, the suspect pointed the gun at him and said to give him what he had. Both men also tied the victim's hands with a cell phone charger while they rummaged through his bedroom. They escaped with $320 and were last seen driving a dark green Jeep Cherokee. bull; Several items were stolen from a home construction site between New Year's Eve and Monday in the 1000 block of Broadmore Drive. Police said between 30 and 40 sheets of plywood, caulk and other materials were missing from the site. They were valued at a total of $1,100. bull; Employees from the Walgreens in the 800 block of Summit Street reported that a man passed a fake $20 bill Monday in an attempt to buy $11 in merchandise. The man, after being told the store wouldn't accept the $20 bill completed the transaction with a real $50 bill. Police caught up with him and he said he had not meant to defraud the store and that he'd gotten the $20 bill Saturday from a co-worker's party in which they put several $20 bills into a pot. Whoever threw the ball in the pot won the money. bull; Someone used an Elgin man's Social Security number and a Texas woman's address to order a mobile phone from Verizon that was sent to Texas on Christmas Day, police said. Verizon has since canceled and placed a fraud alert on the account. bull; Over the holiday break, someone spray painted gang symbols on Coleman Elementary School.bull; Donnie L. Beavers, 54, of the 2200 block of Toftrees Trail, Elgin, was charged with attempted eavesdropping of a law enforcement officer Tuesday morning. Police came to his home at 1:45 a.m. to investigate a battery complaint and Beavers told them he dialed his voice mail and was recording everything, police said. He also refused to stop recording even after officers repeatedly told him to, police said. Bond was set at $1,000 on the misdemeanor charge and his next court date is Jan. 15.Huntleybull; Holiday decorations were damaged New Year's Eve in a yard on the 9800 block of Sheldon Road, police said.
