Pistons waive Hamlton; next stop Bulls?

DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons have waived Richard Hamilton.

The native of Coatesville, Pa., Hamilton is expected to land with the Chicago Bulls, who need a shooting guard to play alongside Derrick Rose.

The move was made Monday in Detroit after both sides agreed to terms of a buyout, which saved the rebuilding team $4 million in salary cap space this season and $4 million more next season.

Hamilton was due to make $19 million over the final two years of his contract in Detroit.

He led the Pistons in scoring in eight of his nine seasons with the franchise. He helped Detroit win the 2004 NBA title during a run in which the franchise reached at least the Eastern Conference finals six straight seasons.
