Visit with Santa in Aurora at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore
Submitted by Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity
Santa Claus will visit Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore Saturday, Dec. 10. The retail building supplies outlet, 4100 Fox Valley Center Drive, Aurora will host Santa during an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Children of all ages are invited to tell Santa their holiday wishes. Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided by Denny’s restaurant.
The 28,000-square-foot ReStore, opened in February, offers new and used building and remodeling materials, books, housewares and other items. Proceeds help Habitat build and rehab affordable housing for low-income families in need. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
“By helping with the ReStore, volunteers, donors and customers help build more homes than if they were working on one home at a build site,” said the Rev. Jeffrey Barrett, Habitat executive director.
In 2003, Kane County produced more than an estimated 80,000 tons of construction waste, Barrett said. Habitat’s ReStore provides an alternative to disposal in landfills and also offers bargains to the public.
Homeowners, contractors, retailers, manufacturers, church groups, colleges and others are invited to donate new or gently used surplus building materials. Donations may be tax deductible if they qualify.
New items wanted are roofing materials, insulation and carpeting and flooring. Gently used items needed are kitchen cabinets, countertops, bathroom vanities, and sinks. Also wanted are millwork and trim, plumbing materials, electrical supplies, light fixtures, door knobs, hinges, bulk fasteners and other hardware, doors, furniture (indoor and outdoor), blocks, decking and other landscaping materials, tools (manual and power), working appliances, windows and wood play sets.
Items that are not accepted are clothing, toys, mattresses, opened paint, toxic chemicals, broken windows, used carpeting, used hot water heaters, wallpaper, window blinds, vehicle parts, used toilets and tub surrounds, lead-based materials, scrap lumber or metal and items with broken or missing parts.
Free pickup of large donations is available by appointment. Call (630) 585-5508, email donations@foxvalleyrestore.org or visit foxvalleyrestore.org.
