Turkey Trot raises over $1,500 for Animal Education and Rescue
Tracey's Turkey Trot raised more than $1,500 for Animal Education and Rescue, a Libertyville nonprofit that is dedicated to bringing people and animals together through education, therapy and rescue.
More than 120 participants, some from as far away as Seattle, signed up for the 5K event. While many ran virtually, a group met on Thanksgiving to participate in person.
"We masked up and practiced social distancing to ensure everyone's health and safety," said Tracey Schulze, a Libertyville resident who started the event in 2016.
"AEAR does so much for the community, and I wanted to give something back to them," she said.
Funds raised will help animals like Seymour, a shy senior cat with special needs who was rescued from a hoarding situation; Carly a border collie mix and her eight surviving newborn puppies; and longtime resident Peace, a male American rabbit who is 4 years old.
"We are so grateful to Tracey and all of our supporters," AEAR founder and director Sandy Kamen Wisniewski said. "This has been a particularly difficult year for people and pets, and every dollar raised allows us to provide more help."
AEAR is a foster-based humane society serving Lake County and surrounding areas. To learn about the organization or view adoptable pets, visit www.aear.org.
