Smoky fire damages southern Indiana restaurant

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Dozens of customers and workers had to evacuate a southern Indiana restaurant after a smoky fire broke out.

Firefighters were called Sunday night to the Buckhead Mountain Grill in Jeffersonville when people started smelling smoke.

Jeffersonville Fire Chief David Kaskie tells WHAS-TV that firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke in the restaurant’s ceiling. Crews were able to extinguish the fire without any injuries being reported.

A cause of the fire wasn’t immediately determined, although Kaskie says it didn’t appear to be a cooking fire.

The News and Tribune reports about 50 people were inside the restaurant when the fire was discovered and that the extent of the damage wasn’t immediately known.
