Elk Grove police tough on seatbelt scofflaws
The Elk Grove Village Police Department is conducting increased traffic enforcement now through Jan. 1, 2012, with an emphasis on pulling over vehicles where occupants are not wearing seat belts.
Officers will be assigned to several seat belt enforcement zones — at intersections where a high volume of crashes occur — where a zero-tolerance stance will be taken against unrestrained motorists. In an effort to increase safety belt use at night, several nighttime zones will be conducted as well.
The Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant is funding the added patrols; the grant is designed to educate the public about the dangers of not using seat belts and child restraints.
