Inform public about Kildeer police
What is really going on with the Kildeer Police Department?
Rumors abound regarding the future of the Kildeer Police Department. The latest word is that, in April 2012, a contract is to be signed with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department that will result in the complete dismantling of local police protection for the Village of Kildeer.
Officials apparently think they will save thousands of dollars by eliminating the local police department and contracting with Lake County for protection. As it currently appears, they overlooked the fact, however, that Kildeer taxpayers would forever be required to fund the tenured officer’s pension funds - in addition to paying for the contracted services.
I think taxpaying Kildeer residents deserve the truth behind these rumors. I, for one, do not think it is a wise move.
This could end up like the recent deal with Deer Park. Little was said about the fact that that contract with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department included five new squad cars at a cost of about $250,000. That sure eats into a bunch of “savings.”
