Judge sentences Ind. man to 70 years in shooting
BLUFFTON, Ind. — A northeastern Indiana man convicted of murder for fatally shooting his estranged wife in front of their 1-year-old son has received a longer prison sentence because she was pregnant.
The Journal Gazette reports a Wells County judge on Friday sentenced 29-year-old Tyler White to 60 years in prison for the 2009 shooting of 28-year-old Amy White. He added an additional 10 years because Amy White was about 12 weeks pregnant when she was shot.
A jury of six men and six women found Tyler White guilty of murder Oct. 4.
Jurors rejected claims from White that he acted in self-defense after his estranged wife pulled a handgun from her jacket with their son playing a few feet away at his parents’ Bluffton home in October 2009.
