Learn about role of Community Crisis Center in Elgin

The Elgin Woman’s Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road, Elgin. The program will feature a presentation by Ruth Peterson from the Community Crisis Center in Elgin, discussing the organization’s role in the community.

Members are asked to bring donations of hand lotion and/or new adult or children’s socks for Community Crisis Center residents. In addition, a surprise holiday guest will pay a visit to the meeting.

Hostess for the December meeting is Sylvia Jo Davis, the club’s arts department chairwoman.

Members and guests are asked to make reservations no later than Friday, Dec. 2, by calling the EWC hotline at (847) 622-3614. The luncheon meeting and program costs $20, which may be paid for by check at the door the day of the meeting.

The Elgin Woman’s Club was organized 124 years ago and as its first project founded Sherman Hospital in a house at the corner of North and Channing streets in Elgin. Since then the club has supported hundreds of local projects including yearly scholarships to U-46 high school students pursuing a medical career in college. The club maintains a strong relationship with the hospital it founded more than a century ago with representation on two hospital boards.
