Important property tax dates

Editor's note: This story was updated to reflect new sale dates issues by the treasurer's office.

Final notices for property tax bills were sent this week but several important dates are approaching. All payments received after Nov. 4 must be made by certified funds — cash, certified bank check or money order made payable to the Lake County Collector.

Those interested in participating in the tax sale must register no later than Nov. 10. To avoid taxes going to the tax sale, payments must be posted at the Lake County Treasurer's office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23.

A postmark will not be accepted and neither will personal checks. On Nov. 28 and 29, the annual tax sale to sell unpaid property taxes is set for 9 a.m. at Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago.

Taxes can be redeemed with additional cost and interest for up to three years from the date of the sale. Visit lakecountyil.gov/treasureror call (847) 377-2323 to verify payment status.
