Vex Theatre Company announces the opening of its new holiday show, “Twist-a-Carol II.” The show runs Dec. 2-4 at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St. in Elgin. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10. For reservations, visit www.vextheatre.org or call (847) 991-8081.
“Twist-a-Carol II” consists of six short, quirky plays about the holidays, interspersed with live music. The centerpiece of this year’s show is “Moby-Nick,” an original Vex performance piece based on the classic novel “Moby Dick.” Instead of searching for the elusive whale, this Ahab is searching for the equally elusive St. Nick.
“Our show’s theme this year is obsession,” says Rich Geiger, artistic director of Vex Theatre Company. “Moby-Nick allows us to explore this theme to the fullest. The quest for the perfect holiday can be as perilous as Ahab’s quest for the great white whale. Our whale happens to wear a red suit and drive a sleigh.”
Other plays include “The Perfect Christmas,” “The Great Christmas Conspiracy,” “Carol of the Drum,” “The List” and “Anna Claus.” All plays were written by Vex ensemble members, including Debbi Dennison, Marc Jolley, Cathleen Ann and Rich Geiger.
This is the second annual installment of Vex’s holiday spectacular “Twist-a-Carol,” containing a completely new lineup of entertainment from last year’s show, which featured the original Vex piece “Turn of the Scrooge.”
For the second year, the Elgin Community Crisis Center will receive 10 percent of ticket sales from this event. The center also will be raising funds through concession sales during the event.
