C. Ind. district sued over bullying before suicide
FISHERS, Ind. — The mother of a 14-year-old boy who committed suicide last year is suing a central Indiana school district over bullying she says he suffered at school.
Natalie Moore claims staffers at both Hamilton Southeastern Junior High and Hamilton Southeastern High School ignored reports that her son, Jamarcus Bell, suffered racially motivated bullying and harassment for perceived homosexuality and emotional troubles.
The federal lawsuit says that the black teenager had his shoes and clothing stolen, metal pieces thrown at him during welding class and was physically assaulted at the schools in Fishers.
Family attorney Jason Delk tells WRTV that teachers and administrators failed to protect Jamarcus from the bullying.
District spokeswoman Marianna Richards tells The Indianapolis Star that it won’t comment until responding in court.
