Prosecutor: 81-year-old killed during robbery
ROCHESTER, Ind. — A prosecutor says the three men charged in the shooting death of an 81-year-old woman broke into her northern Indiana home to steal jewelry and guns.
The Fulton County prosecutor on Monday filed murder charges against all three for the Nov. 22 death of Wilma Upsall at the rural Rochester home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law.
The Rochester Sentinel reports that 24-year-old Roy Bell of Rochester, 34-year-old Jason Miller of Plymouth and 25-year-old William Scroggs of Delong are set for initial court hearings Tuesday.
Prosecutor Rick Brown says all three have admitted being inside the home, but all deny shooting Upsall. Brown says he believes they didn’t know Upsall was home when they broke in.
The coroner says Upsall died from multiple gunshot wounds to the back.
