Gary FOP votes no confidence in police chief

GARY, Ind. — Members of Gary’s Fraternal Order of Police lodge want Mayor Rudy Clay to sack Police Chief Anthony Stanley.

The Post-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/vUDDTL ) 119 members voted no confidence in Stanley on Wednesday while seven supported him. The no votes represent more than half of the 235-member force.

FOP President Del Stout says the lodge will present the vote tallies to Clay on Friday. Clay named Stanley chief in August. He’s the ninth police chief under Clay, who leaves office in January.

Officers learned earlier this month that Stanley convinced Gary’s Board of Works to eliminate the rank of captain and cut other ranks by 25 percent immediately.

Stanley had no comment on the vote Thursday. He had said earlier the FOP vote would not deter him from his duties as chief.
