Successful fall for Fremd’s Hindle

It was quite a fall for Fremd senior Brian Hindle.

The two-year starter and team captain helped lead Fremd to a third-place finish at the Class 3A boys soccer state tournament in St Charles.

He also made a verbal commitment to play soccer for DePaul.

“Brian is a tremendous leader who has the will-to-win attitude every team needs, and will do whatever is needed to put us in position to succeed,” said Fremd coach Steve Keller. “He’s an 80-minute, gifted player who possesses the technique and understanding of the game to be able to take over for long stretches.”

Ÿ Liberty University freshman goalkeeper Scott Sutarik (Palatine) was selected as the Big South Defensive Player of the Week.

Sutarik made 4 saves in a 3-0 win over Radford, recording his fourth shutout of the season. He set the tone early in the contest as he turned away a Highlander attack from 6 yards out in the fifth minute of the contest. He also came up big in the 19th minute with a stop on a point-blank shot to keep Radford off the board.

Ÿ Carthage College sophomore Billy Hamilton (St. Viator) was named first team all-conference by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Hamilton is the starting center midfielder for the Carthage RedMen.

Carthage won the 2011 CCIW championship and went on to take first place in the CCIW postseason tournament.

Hamilton had the sudden-death overtime assist as Carthage beat North Park University 3-2 in the tournament final. For the season, Hamilton had 4 goals and 5 assists for a total of 13 points. He was a member of the St. Viator 2009 state championship team.

Women’s volleyball

Senior setter Drewann Pancratz (Schaumburg) and senior outside hitter Lauren Dembkowski (Hersey) of Carthage were first-team all-conference selections in the CCIW.

They were also named first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region.

Dembkowski (.215, 2.86 kills per set) and Pancratz (.318, 9.01 assists per set, 2.37 digs per set) helped The Lady Reds defeated the No. 2 team in the country Washington University (Mo.) 3-2 to win the NCAA regional and move on to the Elite Eight on Friday.

Women’s soccerJunior goalkeeper Jacqueline Piasecki (Conant), sophomore forward Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates) and freshman goalkeeper Emily Haeger (Rolling Meadows) are members of Wisconsin-Whitewater women#146;s soccer team (13-4-2, 6-1-1), which won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference championship.

Ÿ Rockhurst freshman Taylor Skala (St. Viator) has been named to the all-Great Lakes Valley Conference first team.

Skala added 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year honors to her first-team selection. She is third in the league with 30 points and finished second in the GLVC in goals scored with 13. She added 4 assists and tallied 2 game-winning goals to help Rockhurst to a 12-4-2 overall record and 10-3-2 mark in the GLVC.

Ÿ Elmhurst senior defender Stephanie Thomson (Palatine) and Wheaton junior midfielder Val Lelle (Wheeling) were named second team all-conference in the CCIW.

Football

MIT freshman Justin Wallace (Fremd) was recognized for his outstanding first year with the Engineers as the New England Football Conference Boyd Division #147;Offensive Rookie of the Year.#148;

Wallace is the first MIT player to earn that honor. He also earned first team All-Boyd Division honors.

Wallace led the Engineers in rushing with 981 yards on 252 carries and scored 8 touchdowns. He rushed for 100 yards four times with a high of 190 in MIT#146;s 23-0 win over Nichols.

Finishing fourth in the NEFC in rushing, Wallace was second among all freshmen nationally in Division III in yards per game (109).

Wallace is also one of only two freshmen in the conference to receive first- or second-team honors as a position player (there were also two freshman kickers).

He was fourth in the conference in rushing and had the second best D-III rushing average for a freshman, finishing 27th overall in D-III rushing.

Men#146;s cross country

Iowa distance runner Jeff Thode (Conant) has qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships at Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 21.

Ÿ North Central College#146;s Matt Perez (Hoffman Estates) took the home the individual title (24:41) and also helped the Cardinals to winning the team NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship.

Women#146;s cross country

North Central College#146;s Kala Bingham (Barrington) finished 30th (22.55) and Amy Schwent (Hoffman Estates) was 103rd (24:29) to help the Cardinals to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships.

Prospect boys basketballProspect High School#146;s #147;FANDEMONIUM 2011#148; will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Jean Walker Field House. There will be free prizes, refreshments and music.

Student event competitions will begin at 6 p.m. with finals at 6:45 p.m. followed by the Blue/White boys basketball scrimmage from 7-8 p.m.

A player#146;s autograph session and parent program meeting will take place from 8-8:15 p.m.
