Elgin teen hit by SUV dies

An 18-year-old Elgin man died Monday morning from injuries he received after he was struck by an SUV while crossing a four-lane road Saturday night, Elgin police said.

Ricky Tuxpan, of the 200 block of Waverly Drive, was walking across four lanes of traffic on Summit Street about 10 p.m. Saturday when a 2003 Saturn Vue headed east is believed to have hit him, police said in a news release.

Both Tuxpan and the driver were taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where Tuxpan died this morning. The driver was released from the hospital.

Police continue to investigate and no citations have been issued.
