Cheniere, Hewlett-Packard, Netflix, Potash: U.S. equity preview
Shares of the following companies may have unusual moves in U.S. trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 7:40 a.m. in New York.
Analog Devices Inc. (ADI US): The maker of chips used in cars, consumer electronics and phone networks forecast first- quarter earnings of no more than 51 cents a share, missing the average analyst estimate of 59 cents.
Brocade Communications Systems Inc. (BRCD US): The maker of switches for data-storage networks reported fourth-quarter earnings of 16 cents a share, exceeding the 10-cent average analyst estimate.
Cheniere Energy Inc. (LNG US): The liquefied natural-gas importer said it has a 20-year sale agreement to sell Gas Natural Fenosa 3.5 million metric tons of LNG per year.
Collective Brands Inc. (PSS US): The operator of Payless shoe stores reported third-quarter revenue of $894.4 million, falling short of the average analyst estimate of $909.8 million.
Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ US) lost 1.5 percent to $26.47. The largest computer maker gave a first-quarter profit forecast and full-year earnings outlook that missed analysts' estimates.
Netflix Inc. (NFLX US) slipped 5.9 percent to $70.11. The video-streaming and DVD subscription service agreed to sell $400 million in stock and convertible notes to bolster cash as it increases spending for online rights to films and TV shows. Wedbush Securities Inc. cut its 12-month price estimate to $45 a share, saying the move was probably “prompted by deteriorating performance and liquidity.”
Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (POT US) gained 1.7 percent to $43.14. The world's biggest fertilizer producer by market value was named as one of Morgan Stanley's preferred shares, in a note that said the U.S. Department of Agriculture is probably “materially underestimating” corn-related feed demand.
