Batavia Thanksgiving run route announced
Make plans to cheer on — or plans to avoid — the runners in The Fox and the Turkey Races in Batavia Thanksgiving morning.
The 4-mile race starts at 9 a.m., and the Youth Mile race at 8 a.m. at the Batavia Government Center, Houston Street and Island Avenue.
Houston will be closed from Island to Water for the whole event, which is expected to end about 10 a.m.
Other roads on the route will generally remain open, except when runners are passing. Route 31 will be closed when runners are crossing.
The 4-milers will run west on Houston to Mallory Avenue, north on Mallory/Republic Road to Maple Lane, west on Maple to Blackhawk Drive, north on Blackhawk to Winnebago Trail, east on Winnebago to Britta Lane, east on Britta to Van Nortwick Street, south on Van Nortwick to Shabbona Trail, west on Shabbona to Cypress Avenue, south on Cypress to Maple, east on Maple to Republic, south to Houston, and east to the Riverwalk.
The Youth Mile will go west on Houston to Lincoln Street, north on Lincoln to Illinois Street, west on Illinois to Jefferson Street, south on Jefferson to Houston, and east on Houston to the Riverwalk.
Race-day registration will start at 6:30 a.m. The fee is $35 for adults, $25 for youths. Runners are also asked to bring canned or boxed food for donation to the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry.
