Bartlett family of four pleads guilty to drug charges
Four members of a Bartlett family probably will never forget Thanksgiving 2011 — the holiday they all became convicted felons.
Rick Schoenwolf, 50; his wife Kimberly, 46, and their two children, 20-year-old Staci and 19-year-old Eric, each pleaded guilty in DuPage County court Tuesday to felony drug possession, according to the state's attorney's office.
The family members were charged in July after police raided their home on the 1000 block of Trillium Lane, seizing small amounts of cocaine, marijuana, prescription painkillers and psychedelic mushrooms. Prosecutors at the time said each family member had a different substance.
In exchange for their pleas, the Schoenwolfs each were sentenced to two years' probation and 30 hours of community service, prosecutors said. They also must undergo counseling and random urine screens.
Defense attorney Brian Telander said his clients can have the convictions expunged once they complete their sentences.
"It won't ruin their futures," he said. "They truly are nice people."
Telander said the police raid stemmed from an investigation into a suspected drug dealer who had been dating Staci Schoenwolf. He said officers trailed the suspect to and from the Schoenwolf home on prior occasions, but he was never charged.
