Lincoln experts to discuss errors in O’Reilly book
SPRINGFIELD — TV show host Bill O’Reilly has given Abraham Lincoln scholars something to talk about: multiple errors in a book about Lincoln’s assassination.
The Lincoln Presidential Museum announced Friday it will hold a public discussion of the book by a panel of Lincoln scholars. The event is scheduled for Dec. 7.
The museum gift shop sells O’Reilly’s book, “Killing Lincoln,” although some other Lincoln sites have decided the book has too many mistakes.
O’Reilly describes Lincoln working in the Oval Office, which wasn’t built until decades later. Experts say he also incorrectly describes the way a defendant in the assassination trial was treated and suggests a Lincoln Cabinet member was in on the assassination conspiracy.
O’Reilly has described the errors as minor mistakes that have been corrected.
