Libertyville business sponsors bike ride for tots
George Garner Cyclery Libertyville will host the second annual Reindeer Ride benefiting the Toys for Tots program at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Weather permitting, a nine-mile route is planned through the streets and neighborhoods surrounding downtown Libertyville to raise awareness of the seasonal toy drive.
“While last year's event was hampered by our first snowstorm, the amount of toys collected exceeded our expectations,” said shop owner George Garner Jr. “This year, we hope the weather cooperates and that the community continues their giving ways.” Garner continued to explain that each location will be a toy drop-off point through Dec. 23.
Registration at shop locations in Libertyville, Northbrook or Lake Zurich or at www.georgegarnercyclery.com. Participants are required to bring a new and unwrapped toy and wear a cycling helmet during the ride. Snacks and refreshments will be provided, as well as a commemorative T-shirt to all registrants while supplies last.
The ride will start from the Libertyville shop, 740 N. Milwaukee Ave. Participants are encouraged to park at the commuter parking lot south of the shop or the free parking garage at Lake Street and Brainerd Avenue, one block west of Milwaukee Avenue, in downtown Libertyville.
All three George Garner Cyclery locations will be a toy drop location during the holiday season, so if you are unable to attend, consider bringing a toy at any time to assist the Toys for Tots initiative.
