New details released on car used in North Aurora robbery
North Aurora police have figured out the make and model of the getaway car used in the robbery Saturday at Woodman’s Market.
The suspects drove off in a 2011 or 2012 four-door Hyundai Sonata. They were in the parking lot before the robbery, police say, possibly as early as 1 p.m.
And the license plate on the vehicle was stolen from another Sonata. The license plate is a Firefighters Memorial plate, No. 64245, and has sticker expiration date of September 2012, police said Wednesday.
The robbery happened around 2:03 p.m. last Saturday. Two Woodman’s employees were walking from the main store to its Gas and Lube station, carrying an unidentified amount of currency. The car pulled up behind them, and a male passenger got out, hit an employee from behind and grabbed the money. The employee was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The passenger and the driver were black men wearing dark clothing.
The suspects left south on Hansen Boulevard, west on Orchard Gateway, then south on Orchard Road.
“No piece of information is too small,” Lt. Scott Buziecki said in a prepared statement. He suggested the suspects may have driven recklessly, such as speeding or weaving in traffic.
Buziecki said that if you see the car or the license plate, do not approach the suspects. Instead, call 911.
