Naperville man remains critical after driving car into Plainfield creek

A Naperville man who drove into Lily Cache Creek in Plainfield remained in critical condition late Friday, authorities said.

Brian Graziano, 22, was heading east about 7 p.m. Wednesday on Renwick Road east of McClellan Avenue when his 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix crossed into the westbound lanes, went off the road and into the creek, Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief John Stratton said.

Stratton said passers-by witnessed the crash, called police, stopped to help, and actually entered the water to attempt to rescue the man.

Firefighters and police arrived on the scene soon after and, with the help of seven people, managed to push the car out, crack the window, and pull Graziano to safety, Stratton said.

Graziano was transported to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

"I'm glad we could get him out," Stratton said. "It was a great group effort by everyone."
