Lisle falls in third-place game
Lisle coach Dan Murray described his Lions as “up and down” at this week’s Lisle Holiday Cage Classic.
It describes Thursday’s third-place game against Walther Lutheran also.
The Lions were up of the night, only to have a down fourth quarter and lose 34-28.
Lisle (11-4) led 26-21 late in the third quarter, but Walther Lutheran scored the next 11 points until Shelby Kretman broke the run with a free throw with 1:32 to play. By then Walther Lutheran led 32-27.
“The kids played their hearts out,” Murray said. “I thought we played really hard. I thought we battled with them on the boards. We frustrated them offensively to get into things. We maintained the lead most of the night.”
The Lions played without starting guards Nicole and Kelly Urban, who had a family commitment.
“I’m especially proud of our group battling without those two and having the lead for most of the night against a quality basketball team,” Murray said.
Sophomore Kristina Fernette stepped in and led the Lions with 9 points. Walther sophomore Isimeme Edeko led all scorers with 11 points.
