Cops: Palatine teens burglarized cars
Palatine police said Thursday they caught two 18-year-olds in the act of burglarizing cars in a neighborhood where one of the teens lived.
Police were called to the 400 and 500 block of West Creekwood Drive at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, by a resident who saw two people entering several cars.
Officers arrived and arrested Edward I. Caley of the 400 block of Creekwood Drive, and David M. Bourbon of the 1300 block of Joan Drive, both of Palatine.
The two teens had entered seven vehicles that were left unlocked - two in an open garage - removing items including a GPS, iPhone, and iPod, police said.
Before being apprehended, police say Caley struck an officer with a bottle. The officer suffered a cut but refused medical treatment, Palatine Police Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder said.
The teens gave statements admitting their crimes at the police station, Schroeder said.
Caley is charged with aggravated battery and three counts of burglary. His bond was set Thursday at $20,000.
Bourbon is charged with three counts of burglary with a $10,000 bond.
Their next court appearance is 10:30 a.m. Sept. 15 in Room 108 of the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
