Lawmakers return to the Capitol Tuesday for their last three scheduled days of the year, starting with a possible morning hearing over new legislation intended to keep Sears Holdings Corp. in Hoffman Estates. Arlington Heights man accused of selling 20 guns online

A 24-year-old Arlington Heights man has been charged with gunrunning. Police said they uncovered the operation after Andre N. Ritual accidentally fired a handgun inside his apartment, sending a bullet into a neighbor's residence. #8220;He says he wasn't making a profit,#8221; said Arlington Heights police Sgt. Pedestrian hit in Arlington Heights

A pedestrian was hit and injured while crossing the street at an Arlington Heights intersection Monday night, according to police. A man was crossing Euclid Avenue at Arlington Heights Road at about 5:45 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle making a left turn, said Arlington Heights Police Sgt. Tom Boggs. Full story.

In 10 years, Illinois' Safe Haven Law has provided homes for 70 babies legally left with authorities. A Cary man has been charged after a standoff with police put two area schools in lockdown Monday afternoon. Police responded to a home on the 1000 block of Nighthawk Way after a woman claimed the man struck her and fired a gun in her direction. Joe Frazier dies at 67

Former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier, who was the first man to beat Muhammad Ali, died Monday night from liver cancer. He was 67. Doctor testifies in day care death trial

A medical expert testifying in trial of Melissa Calusinski said that victim Benjamin Kingan's head injury was #8220;recent#8221; and not an aggravation to an existing injury, as the defense claims. There are no major delays to report on area roadways early this morning, though with the rain coming, it's expected to become more congested than normal. People are asked to watch for ongoing construction on JR Rakow Road between Ackman Road and Route 31 in Crystal Lake, and southbound Route 53 between Thorndale Road and Army Trail Road in Addison. Earl Bennet's return to the offense helped the Bears rally to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 30-24 last night.
