Aurora man accused of having child porn

A 45-year-old Aurora man and Lucent Technologies employee has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Aurora police said they searched the home of Frank H. Smith in the 1900 block of Birch Lane on the city's west side about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Sgt. Christopher Whitfield said police received a tip from the Illinois attorney general's office a few months ago and began an investigation.

Whitfield said authorities found videos and seized several computers, hard drives and compact discs from Smith's home.

"There's a lot that we have to go through so we'll probably be upgrading charges in the future," Whitfield said.

So far, the child pornography possession charge that Smith faces so far is a class 3 felony that carries up to five years in prison, but probation also is an option.

It was not immediately clear whether Smith had an attorney, when he was due in court next or what has bond was set at.

Whitfield said Naperville police assisted and Lucent, where Smith is employed, also was cooperative in the investigation.
