Where’s the plan to address state debts?
So far this year Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and CTA President Forrest Claypool have been aggressively addressing monster budget shortfalls, and their valiant efforts seem to be making news almost daily. All three have gotten great starts in addressing massive budgetary problems that they have inherited from past administrations.
Unfortunately nothing like this seems to be going on in our state government — even though the financial situation here is about as bad as what is going on in Greece. Does Gov. Pat Quinn have some kind of master plan that he is not making public, or could it be that there are no plans at all, even tentative enough to publicize?
It is about time Quinn start being the governor instead of still being lieutenant governor and to finally get something going to address the most important issues affecting the massive state budget shortfalls and state debt. Perhaps Quinn should get together with key members of the legislature and possibly also retired successful business leaders ASAP to assist him in planning actions needed to correct the dire situation we are in.
