Submitted by South Elgin Parks

South Elgin Parks and Recreation and the FUNdation have planned the 10th annual “An Almost Winter Day” for Saturday, Nov. 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. at SEBA Park and the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St.

This special event features a petting zoo, Fox River Trolley Lines trolley rides with the reading of the “Polar Express,” horse-drawn sleigh rides, a cookie decorating and holiday activity area, coffee bar station, s’more extravaganza, bonfire, tree lighting and the arrival of the Jolly Guy from the North on one of South Elgin’s fire engines.

Visit the Municipal Annex for the decorated holiday windows that will be unveiled at 3 p.m. that day, or write a letter to Santa at An Almost Winter Day. Just enclose the $2 fee in the envelope with the letter and place it in the mailbox. Don’t forget your return address. At 5 p.m., Santa will take everyone down to Footprints in Time Plaza for the village’s tree-lighting event.

The South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District will be kicking off their Toys for Tots program at this event. Bring an unwrapped toy and drop it in the marked bin.

Come early for a pizza lunch with Santa from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pizza Cucina, 325 Randall Road. The cost is $25 for residents and $30 for nonresidents for a family of four. Each additional child is $5. Registration prior to the lunch is required.
