FBI officials said the man walked up to a teller at the bank and verbally announced the robbery, then fled in an unknown direction with an unknown quantity of cash.

Police continue search for suspect in Streamwood baby strangulation

Streamwood police are expected to release more information regarding the unsolved strangulation of a baby boy over the weekend. The boy was found in a restroom trash can at a Salvation Army store on Friday. Authorities have classified the child's death a homicide. Police released a sketch of a woman who was in the bathroom for an hour Friday morning. Full story.

Metra employees raking in OT

Metra's overtime costs are in the millions: $18 million in 2010 and $12.6 million through August of this year. “The majority of our overtime costs come from things we can't control,” Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said. On Sunday, dozens of young people from the suburbs tried to sing their way to the short list for the upcoming season of "The Glee Project," a reality show competition that gives contestants a chance to win a role on the popular show "Glee." “‘Glee' teaches that you don't have to be the kind of person that's in all the magazines to be a star,” said Eduardo Marquez of Des Plaines. Newly elected Buffalo Grove mayor might run for judge

Buffalo Grove's mayor, Jeffrey Braiman, is considering a run for a Lake County circuit judge seat in March's Democratic primary, just months after being elected mayor. If he is successful in the primary bid and wins in November's general election, he would have to step down as village president. “Being mayor is not my occupation,” he said. “I have been trained as an attorney and served as a lawyer for 34 years. West Chicago boy granted Make-A-Wish gift in wake of heart surgeries

A 5-year-old West Chicago area boy who has survived three heart surgeries was granted a dream come true: a backyard play set through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Although he had his pick of wishes such as a VIP trip to Disney World, Owen Payton got his wish Saturday complete with a tunnel as requested. “He didn't know what to say,” his father said. “His mouth just hit the floor.” Full story.

Paterno reacts to former Penn State coach's sex abuse charges

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno said he was shocked, saddened and surprised to hear his longtime defensive coordinator was charged with sexually abusing young boys over a 15-year period. Paterno testified before the grand jury in the case as a witness. An assistant coach in 2002 told Paterno he witnessed a young boy being sexually abused in the shower of the team's locker room. Jerry Sandusky is accused of abusing eight boys. Full story.

Traffic

No accidents to report this early as the roadways are running wide open. Wille Avenue between Dundee Road and Center Avenue in Wheeling will be open to two-way traffic beginning 7 a.m. Nov. 7, but northbound traffic on Wille Avenue will only be allowed to turn right onto eastbound Dundee Road, and truck traffic will be allowed on Wille Avenue only as far south as the service access driveway at the south end of Fresh Farms Plaza. Canucks score 5 PP goals in win over Hawks

The Blackhawks' special teams continued to struggle immensely last night as the rival Vancouver Canucks scored 5 power-play goals in a 6-2 rout. The Hawks' power play, on the other hand, was 0 for 5 and has only scored 5 goals the entire year. Patrick Kane, Bryan Bickell, Viktor Stalberg and Daniel Carcillo each took a bad penalty in the heated match that the Canucks turned into a goal. “They were better in all areas, whether it was physical, special teams or 5-on-5,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “I was disappointed with it across the board. Prime time matchup a tough test for Bears D

After a slow start to the year, the Philadelphia Eagles' offense seems to have caught fire just in time for tonight's matchup with the Bears. Philly's 34-7 smashing of the Dallas Cowboys caught the eye of at least one Bear defender. “I watched some of it,” Bears nickel back D.J. Moore said. “It was touchdown, touchdown, touchdown. I fell asleep, but then I woke up, and it was more touchdowns.” The Eagles piled up 495 yards against the Cowboy defense that came into the game ranked No. 1 in rushing yards and No. 6 in total yards allowed.
