Lombard Fire responds to early morning house fire, no injuries

LOMBARD, Illinois—The Lombard Fire Department responded to a house fire 423 W. Willow at 6:08 a.m. this morning. The 9-1-1 call was made by a 17-year-old male resident, who awoke to fire caused by an unattended candle left lit overnight.

Lombard Engine 43 was first on the scene and attacked the fire, which was put out in approximately five minutes, according to Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik.

A candle was lit late last night that was not in a holder and was left burning all night on a desk, according to Rakosnik. Plastic products near the candle, including CDs, a computer and other contents on the desk, caught on fire, which emitted a lot of black smoke, added Rakosnik. The fire was contained to the bedroom. Damage is estimated at approximately $75,000.

There was no structural damage to the home and no injuries to the resident or firefighters. The home is uninhabitable and the Fire Department will relocate the family to a local hotel.

Mutual aid was provided by Villa Park Fire Department, York Center Fire Protection District and Oak Brook Fire Department. Questions may be directed to Rakosnik at (630) 620-5734.
