Submitted by Anderson Animal Shelter

Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin will hold its 26th annual dinner and auction on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Q Center in St. Charles. This is the major fundraising event of the year. The theme is “A Night to Paws.”

Although the economy is starting to show some signs of recovery, donations are still down roughly 25 percent from prerecession levels. At the same time, the costs for pet food and medical care has continued to rise. The animal shelter is a nonprofit organization and it must raise 50 percent of its funding through individual, corporate and foundation contributions. The balance of funds come from fees for adoption, veterinary clinics and special events.
