Hoffman Estates recognized for clean air efforts

The village of Hoffman Estates was awarded “Platinum” community status by Clean Air Counts, a regional environmental initiative of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.

This recognition follows Clean Air Counts “Gold” status, which Hoffman Estates was awarded in 2010 for its awareness and practices to improve community air quality. Thank you to the Village’s Green Initiatives and Environmental commissions, whose efforts contributed to reaching this accomplishment.

Some of the activities that helped put the village at the top level of recognition included:

Ÿ An idling-reduction policy for village vehicles

Ÿ Zoning requirements that reinforce environmentally friendly design techniques

Ÿ Participation in Earth Hour and Bike-to-Work Week

Ÿ Use of energy-efficient lighting fixtures

Ÿ Purchase of alternative energy credits (in place of standard oil-produced electricity)

Ÿ Development of the Hoffman Estates Green Business Recognition Program

The village’s “Green Projects” page includes a section titled “Air and Water Quality,” which is dedicated to activities and tips to improve air quality in the community.
