Report: Guillen interested in Zambrano

A Venezuelan newspaper is reporting that Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen recently spoke to Carlos Zambrano about joining him in Miami.

Zambrano, who is still under contract with the Cubs and signed for $18 million in 2012, is not expected to play for the Cubs next season, athough he is listed on the team's 40-man roster.

If Zambrano were to move to the Marlins to join his longtime friend, it would have to be via trade.

The Guillen-Zambrano conversation was first reported by the Venezuelan publication El Nacional. According to unnamed sources cited in a report at mlb.com, the Marlins would give consideration to Zambrano only if the Cubs pick up a large portion of his remaining $18 million contract.

Zambrano threatened to retire and was placed on the disqualified list after his meltdown in Atlanta on Aug. 12 when he was removed from the game. Zambrano served a 30-day suspension and did not return to the team for the remainder of the season.
