Fire forces evacuation of Arlington Hts. condos
A fire inside an Arlington Heights condo unit was contained to the kitchen area Wednesday night, but the unit was deemed uninhabitable until repairs are made, according to fire officials.
The fire at the Dana Point Condominiums on the 1500 block of Central Road broke out around 5 p.m. and was likely do to a cooking mishap, said Arlington Heights fire Cmdr. Randy Borre.
One person was inside the condo at the time and was able to escape without injury, officials said.
Firefighters evacuated the building as a precaution, but the fire never spread beyond the unit.
Smoke and fire damage caused about $20,000 to the condo, Borre said.
