Fire dept. responds to single-family house fire, no injuries

LOMBARD, Illinois— The Lombard Fire Department responded to a residential house fire this morning at 508 East Washington. Two occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to arrival of emergency companies. Both residents were evaluated by EMS on the scene for smoke inhalation and both refused transport to the hospital. The home is deemed uninhabitable at this time.

Units were dispatched at 9:03 a.m. and arrived on scene and were met by an intense first floor fire in the cape cod style home that was rapidly spreading up to the second floor. Companies made an aggressive attack on the fire, along with a primary and secondary search. The fire was knocked down and no civilians were found inside, according to Battalion Chief Chuck Ralis.

The alarm was upgraded to a “special” alarm which brought in fire companies to both Lombard Fire Stations to cover any additional emergencies while personnel and equipment were committed to this scene. Lombard was assisted on the scene by the Lombard Police, York Center Fire Protection District, Villa Park Fire Department, Oak Brook Fire Department and Elmhurst Fire Department. Station coverage was handled by Lisle-Woodridge, Addison and Wheaton fire companies.

Cause and origin of the fire is currently undetermined at this time. The Lombard Fire Investigation Unit's investigation is underway.
