Hampshire Middle School students celebrates veterans close to home

Submitted by Hampshire Middle School

On Friday, Nov. 11, Hampshire Middle School will recognize parents and grandparents who are veterans or currently serving in the armed forces. Speaking at the assembly will be Larry Cappetto, an award-winning producer of the PBS World War II series “Lest They Be Forgotten.” The series of 12 films captures the memories of war veterans and their service. Cappetto travels the country speaking in communities and schools in an effort to preserve the history and honor of the nation’s veterans.

The all-school program will start at 12:30 p.m. in the school’s main gym, 560 S. State St.

During the assembly, patriotic music will be performed by the school’s music department. Cappetto will conduct a program featuring the veterans he has interviewed. Cappetto also will be spending the day with the students talking about veterans and their experiences.
