Family Services offers girls retreat
Submitted by TriCity Family Services
TriCity Family Services will hold its second Adolescent Girls’ Weekend Retreat Oct. 21-23 at Covenant Harbor Retreat Center in Lake Geneva, Wis.
The participants will depart after regular school hours on Friday, Oct. 21.
Set against the backdrop of 52 picturesque wooded acres along Lake Geneva, adolescent girls will be challenged to cultivate new competencies in experiential and activity-oriented ways.
Special emphasis will be given to the development of emotional self-awareness and relationship management skills.
During the skill-building weekend, the girls will learn ways in which to engage in values-based positive behavior even while experiencing difficult thoughts, emotions and sensations. The group will provide support to one another, while the participants are challenged to face feelings they may commonly avoid.
When asked “What did you learn, or what will you take away, from your experience on the retreat?” the girls said, “I learned how to open up to people. I never really opened up like that.”
“I will talk about how I feel and not keep my hurt bottled up inside until it gets to the point where I absolutely lose it.” “I learned how to treat my emotions and nurture the ones I don’t like.”
“I will tell myself, ‘I am important and I deserve to be heard.’” “I will tell myself ‘I am OK. I am beautiful and don’t need to be ashamed.’”
TriCity Family Services is looking for additional participants for the adolescent girls’ retreat.
If you know an adolescent girl who would like to join them on the next Adolescent Girls Retreat or for additional information, call Mira Dahleim at (630) 232-1070.
