Historical society looks at Girl Scouts, railroads

The Grayslake Historical Society hosts events that examine railroads and the Girl Scouts this month.

How the railroads influenced the growth of Grayslake and the surrounding area will be the topic of a program at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake.

Society board member Terry Norton will talk about trains in his program, “Trains of Grayslake and Lake County: A Brief History.”

The historical society also will host a round-table discussion and reminiscing about Girl Scouts as a preview to the 100th anniversary next year of Girl Scouting in the United States.

The recollection and memorabilia session will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum. The museum will have a Girl Scout display next year marking the centennial anniversary.

Those attending the session are encouraged to bring Girl Scout memorabilia or talk about their experiences in the Girl Scout program.
