Wis. court upholds school shooter's conviction

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court says a jury properly convicted a high school student of killing his principal.

Eric Hainstock, who was 15 at the time, shot Weston Schools Principal John Klang during a struggle in a school corridor in 2006. A jury convicted Hainstock of first-degree intentional homicide in 2007.

Hainstock argued on appeal the trial judge improperly allowed his confession into evidence. He contends the confession was involuntary.

The 4th District Court of Appeals ruled prosecutors provided other evidence that showed Hainstock intended to kill Klang, including testimony from Hainstock's classmates that Hainstock told them Klang wouldn't survive homecoming and a janitor who said Hainstock told him he was there to kill someone.

Hainstock's attorney didn't immediately return a message.
