Chicago Wolves drop opener in shootout

SAN ANTONIO — The Chicago Wolves couldn’t convert on any shootout chances as their 18th season began with a 3-2 shootout loss to San Antonio on Saturday night at AT&T Center.

The Rampage (1-0-0-0) scored on 2 of 4 shootout tries while the Wolves (0-0-0-1) were denied on four opportunities.

Captain Darren Haydar handed out 2 assists to help lift the Wolves to a 2-1 lead midway through the second period. Haydar set up Kevin Doell in the first period and Darren Archibald in the second. For Archibald, a 21-year-old rookie left winger, it marked his first American Hockey League goal on his first career shot.

Wolves goalie Eddie Lack stopped 31 of 33 shots in regulation and overtime.

Michael Davies and Kevin Connauton earned assists for the Wolves.

The Wolves wrap up their brief Texas swing at 5 p.m. today against the Houston Aeros at Toyota Center. The game will be broadcast on CN 100.
