U.S. wins softball gold at Pan American Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico — The U.S. softball team won its seventh straight gold medal at the Pan American Games by beating Canada 11-1 in four innings Sunday.

The Americans dominated the tournament, finishing 9-0 to win their eighth gold medal in the sport at the regional competition.

The United States earned four other gold medals early Sunday, including two in water skiing, one in triathlon and one in equestrian.

Regina Jaquess won the women’s slalom event in water skiing, while Jonathan Travers earned gold in the men’s event.

Sarah Haskins earned a quota spot for the United States at the 2012 London Olympics by winning the women’s triathlon, and the eventing team of Hannah Burnett, Shannon Lilley, Lynn Symansky, Buck Davidson and Michael Pollard won the team gold.
