Two Lake County libraries get NEA grants
The Lake Villa and Fremont public libraries have been awarded a grant to fund weeklong writing workshops and related programming next year.
The $10,000 Arts Education in America matching grant is from the National Endowment of the Arts. It will support a collaborative effort between the two libraries, the “So You Want to Be an Author: the Art & Craft of Writing” program.
The grant will enhance writing and publishing currently offered at both libraries.
Lake Villa District Library offers “Lakes Literary League,” a monthly support group for those interested in writing.
The Fremont library, which is in Mundelein, participates in “Inside Writing & Publishing,” a series of writing seminars held each spring in conjunction with four other North suburban libraries.
Both have been highly successful and well attended for several years.
The centerpiece of the project, the weeklong workshops offered at both libraries, will be taught by Chicago author Barbara Gregorich, a teacher and public speaker with a long resume of published books. She is a popular speaker at both libraries.
Related programming may include a noted author appearance and book discussions. The schedule of events will be available mid-February 2012.
The initiative is geared to people ages 14 and older.
