Chicago Wolves Lack for nothing in net

Goaltender Eddie Lack turned aside all 35 shots he faced, including 18 in the third period, lifting the Chicago Wolves to their first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over the Rockford IceHogs in an Illinois Lottery Cup game Friday night at the Allstate Arena.

Lack (1-1-2) notched the sixth shutout of his AHL career, as the Wolves got goals from Darren Haydar and Kevin Connauton.

“It feels good to get a win,” said Wolves coach Craig MacTavish after his first career AHL victory. “They had chances all game, but Lack was not going to be beat tonight.”

The Wolves (1-2-0-2) scored on a power play 13:43 into the first period. Kevin Doell picked up a loose puck off a faceoff scrum and sent a pass to Haydar, who tapped the puck into an empty net.

The Wolves doubled their lead at 1:47 of the final period with another power-play goal. Connauton walked into the slot and wristed a shot past screened goalie Alexander Salak(0-1-0), who stopped 28 of 30 shots for the IceHogs (3-2-0-0).

The Wolves travel to Rockford today for a rematch with the IceHogs at 7 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
