Smoothen out bad Route 20 repave
The current resurfacing project on Route 20 in Elgin needs attention.
Last week, the inside eastbound and inside westbound lanes were opened after resurfacing while the outside lanes were closed for grinding and oil.
After riding on the newly resurfaced lanes, I’m disappointed with the lack of smoothness in the surface. Take the Larkin on-ramp to westbound Route 20 — the ramp was recently resurfaced as part of this project — and compare it to the newly resurfaced Route 20 and you’ll notice a major difference.
And this is true from Shales Parkway to Longcommon Parkway on both eastbound and westbound lanes. The Route 20 surface seems to be full of imperfections and bumpiness, very unusual for a freshly paved road. I hope this is fixed before the project is completed. If it’s not, the road will quickly deteriorate and require constant maintenance along with another resurfacing effort within two years.
Considering the number of commuters who use this road in and out of the Elgin, Burlington, Huntley and Hampshire areas and beyond, this road needs to be given the proper amount of attention and care.
For those of us who’ve waited a long time for this project to start, and are more than willing to cope with the extended commute due to the construction, anything less than a smooth surface will be a major disappointment, not to mention a complete waste of taxpayer resources.
Fix it, IDOT.
