Readers on Run 5K Saturday in Batavia
Submitted by Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties Inc.
As part of the Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties Inc. commitment to promoting childhood literacy and a healthy lifestyle, the league has announced the first “Readers on the Run” 5K and kids run. It will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Fox River Trail at Houston Street and Island Avenue in Batavia.
“It’s important to introduce kids to the enjoyment of reading early on, and this run will allow us to illustrate what an adventure reading can be,” said Junior League President Christina Brady.
The run will provide a family environment where parents and kids can learn about and put into action steps of healthy living.
There will be a book drive for donations to local literary organizations. Each person who donates a book will be entered into a raffle to be drawn at the end of the run; one entry per person. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary characters and will be treated to activities after the kids run provided by the Junior League’s new members. The 5K run is a USTAF-certified event (IL-09075-JW) that serious or casual runners can use toward training or just for fun.
The start is at 8 a.m. with activities to follow until noon.
Entry includes bib number, event T-shirt and goody bag. To register, visit www.jlkd.org via the link for 5K Registration. Keep up on the latest Run News on the Junior Leage Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/JLKDServes and Twitter page at www.twitter.com/JLKDServes.
