Downstate man rescued from grain bin
JAMAICA, Ill. — Rescue crews have pulled an eastern Illinois man from a grain bin full of corn.
Danville Fire Department Assistant Chief Tom Pruitt tells The Commercial News that Jeff Gooch of Sidell was trapped up to his chest in an elevator in Jamaica when rescue crews were called Tuesday morning. The small towns are about 15 miles southwest of Danville.
Pruitt says rescuers rappelled into the 100-foot-tall bin on ropes and freed Gooch. He was trapped for about two hours.
Pruitt says Gooch had no apparent injuries but was taken to an area hospital.
